The Buffalo River is the longest unimpounded river in Middle Tennessee and is a tributary of the Duck River. It is great for canoeing and the Boy Scouts of America has a reservation located just outside of Linden, TN call Grimes Canoe Base. Every year we do what is called the Grimes 25 miler which entails 2 nights of camping and just over 25 miles of canoeing in 2 days. We make camp on a Friday evening and on Saturday morning we get hauled up river 17 miles, canoeing back to base camp. We prepare dinner and getting the boys to fall asleep is not a problem after 17 miles. On Sunday we get back in our canoes at Grimes, canoeing another 10 plus miles, and get picked up at a designated site. Sore shoulders and butt but all smiles!
